Difference and application of VHF/UHF antenna frequency bands
Apr 20, 2024
VHF and UHF are frequently used in the field of radio communication, especially in the vehicle antenna plate, and the U/V band is more widely used. This paper will further introduce the relevant knowledge points of this band.
(1) Noun explanation
VHF, also known as meter wave band, is the abbreviation of Very High Frequency. The frequency band ranges from 30 MHz to 30~300MHz, and the wavelength of radio waves is 10 ~ 1m.
UHF is called decimeter wave band, which is the abbreviation of Ultra High Frequency. The frequency band range is 300 ~ 3000 MHz, and the radio wavelength is 1m ~ 1dm.
(2) the difference between the two
The V-band antenna has the highest production rate among amateur radio enthusiasts, including various high-gain directional and omnidirectional antennas, mobile whip antennas in vehicles and compact handset antennas. There is basically no reflection on the ionosphere of the signal in this frequency band, and the electric wave mainly propagates in the line-of-sight of direct waves. When encountering a large building or mountain during transmission, it will generate reflected waves, so it can only be used as short-distance communication.
The penetration of U-band is better than that of V-band. U-band is widely used in cities, but it is still not suitable for long-distance communication. Because this frequency band has high frequency and low noise, it can be set in cars.
